Shannon Spencer Scott -

Shannon Spencer Scott - "Minister of Stories"

Born in Terra Haute, Indiana and raised in Rantoul, Illinois, Shannon Scott was raised by school teacher parents and grew up surrounded by farmland and the Chanute Air Force Base. As a child, Shannon excelled in art & history, becoming a natural storyteller with a strong ability to paint pictures in the minds of others with words. His boyhood was filled with typical things like detasseling corn, painting barns, racing dirt bikes, and traveling the country with his parents to great natural, event & personality historical sites. The exposure to the likes of Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Philadelphia, Yosemite, Mammoth Caves, The Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Tombstone, The Painted Desert, Redwood Forest and others, instilled a great love for history and paved the way for Shannon as storyteller. As he’s often mused, “As kids, my friends all wanted to go to Disney-world, and I wanted to go to Williams-burg.” In his high school years, he discovered a natural love for art, winning many Scholastic Awards and eventually a Fine Arts Scholarship to the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). As they say, the rest is history. Be sure to read the main blog to learn more about the fascinating life, times and career of your future host and storyteller, Shannon Scott!

Kelsey McGee Scott

Kelsey McGee Scott

It’s no surprise Kelsey has an extensive vocabulary, and ‘cemetery’ is her most favorite word. You can find her and Shannon inseparable, any chance they can explore one, together. The word ‘walk’ usually goes hand in hand, and her ears grow twice their size when she gets the cue. She’s known for swinging on vines of old, oak trees and making sure none of them escape alive. Little do people know she’s the hardest working, undercover, cemetery clean-up crew and sheriff, and she has earned her badge. She can spot any ‘critter’ in her vicinity and understands her duty to keep them in line. Finally, absolutely no cemetery shift is complete without picking out the highest quality ‘stick.’ Only the most worthy will do. Then, she will perform her daily, civic duty of carrying this prized possession home, through her secret path, down the sidewalk, past her white picket fence gate, up the steps and into her story-museum where her stick joins an impressive collection. When she’s not on cemetery duty, she’d rather be at the beach, rescuing logs and sticks from the waves. She travels seamlessly between cemetery and ocean, which makes sense as a “water spirit.” She is equally passionate about going for a ‘ride’ because that means visiting one or the other, ‘navigating’ from the front seat, picking up ‘puppuccinos,’ and looking for ‘big dogs,’ which is code for horse. To complete her list of favorite things, she loves chomping on (very specific) bones, sneaking pizza crust and ice cream, snuggling in her humans’ bed, listening to Johnny Mercer, or laying out in the sun with her ancient kitty pal, Blinxie. This little lady is a natural, born entertainer and hilarious, wild and precious soul. Lately, she needs some help getting back on her feet. You can read more about her healing journey here. She is such a light to many but especially to her beloved Shannon.

Janine Rodriguez-Rogacki - Savannah's Lady in Mourning

Janine Rodriguez-Rogacki - Savannah's Lady in Mourning

Hi, my name is Janine, and I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pa. I am married to my best friend whom I have known since high school. My interests include dogs, nature, the beach, live music, line dancing, spreading positive energy, and history, but especially the civil war.
What brought me to Savannah is its history.   When I first vacationed to Savannah, there were 3 things I wanted to see: The fountain at Forsythe Park , Fort Pulaski civil war fort, and Bonaventure Cemetery. Never in a million years would I ever have imagined that I would have a dream job of touring people through some of these places. I want people to fall in love with Savannah as much as I did when I first vacationed here 15 years ago.  I hope my passion for Savannah truly shines during my tours.
Ken Rimes - The Southern Gentleman

Ken Rimes - The Southern Gentleman

I am a Savannah native and proud of it! I have lived here for 50 years with a 19-year “vacation” in Texas. My working career was mostly in chemical plants and not academia, but history has always been interesting to me and giving tours was a plan for my retirement years. I enjoy giving the history of my home during our Wandering Historians tours of the Historic District, as well as insight into burial customs and the people buried in Colonial Park and Bonaventure cemeteries. I enjoy meeting guests from all over, and am continuously amazed at how small the world is while making connections with each other. I look forward to sharing my passion for my hometown with you!

Story

A Journey Through Time

Shannon Scott has soaked up Savannah and The Low Country at every level for over 30 years. Arriving as a Fine Arts student of The Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), he became a regular at The Georgia Historical Society and, as a conversationalist, earned the graces of many locals — from the richest to the poorest — and absorbed their stories and those of their friends and family. During these nurturing hours, Shannon acquired his first tour guide license at age 19 and drove carriages, buses and trolleys, and he worked as a step-on guide for major tour bus companies. As it was somewhat impossible to live solely as a tour guide, Shannon became a cook and caterer, refining his talents in many a restaurant and private club. 1995 was a pivotal year. Shannon created all of the walking tours for a local company and became the city’s most sought after ghost tour Storyteller. It was also during this time that Shannon began to do voice-over commercial work, further honing his skill set. After leaving SCAD, he opened a publishing company, Jones Street Productions, and published refined maps for higher-end travelers, specialized map guides, devoted to antiques and art galleries, and his most popular publication: The Foodies Guide. Always looking to the future for himself and Savannah, it would be Hollywood that took a keen interest in this area expert. Shannon found himself working as a regular researcher, associate producer and location scout for films, particularly TV shows dealing with hauntings, some of which involved on-camera participation. Most notably, these included “Scariest Places On Earth” and “Ghosthunters.” In 2002, Shannon opened his own ghost tour company and self-financed, produced and starred in his own documentary film, “America’s Most Haunted City,” based on his own experiences and those of friends and neighbors in Savannah. In 2010, Shannon sold his tour company and opened Shannon Scott Tours & Events, placing major emphasis on cemeteries and unique cultural events related to them. Future plans include tours and events in other Southern cities with cemeteries that need a greater spotlight.

Frequently asked questions

Most frequent questions and answers

We offer a variety of tours, including historical, ghost, and private customizable tours.

You can book a tour directly through our website or contact us for personalized assistance.

We recommend you dress comfortably and wear shoes for walking, as you will be on your feet for the majority of the tour. Bathrooms are available only at the start and end of the event. While it is not always needed, it would not hurt to bring bug spray. At times, it is a necessity.

Remember to put your phones on silent. Photographs are allowed. Videos and audio are not permitted. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted. Service animals only, please. Inquire for private tours.

Cancellations & Refunds: 24 Hours Notice Required!

When you are outside of the cancellation window — we do permit future use or rescheduling for a future tour, or your tickets are “Good Until Redeemed.” Tickets may also be gifted or used by friends or family using the original reservation name. While it is rather easy to “re-book,” generally, please bear in mind that for “rebooking” tickets, as these are defined, a tour must already be on the books for rebooking purposes, and a tour cannot be created around your unused or original tickets.

Because we keep a small story stable of tenured guides — and Shannon Scott, himself, has a calendar of presentations and demonstrations that take him outside Savannah — his schedule is often modified to fit the client tour experience with him, thus the cancellation policy is commensurate or reflective, and we appreciate your understanding.

General Policies:

A. 25% of the purchase is considered the “security retainer” and non-refundable at all times
B. Cancellations must occur no later than 72 hours prior
C. After 36 hours, the event is non-refundable but may be rescheduled

Shannon Scott will, in many cases, conduct private tours, himself, and more often, the Full-Day experiences that include transportation listed under the Private Tours tab per the relative experience. Although highly rare, if “an Act of God” event occurs that prevents Shannon Scott from fulfilling his obligation, a secondary guide will be offered but in no way guarantees a refund of any kind. However, this may result in a price reduction, only if other costs — such as transportation and payment of that guide — are not affected. Or, a makeup tour or tour credit will be offered.

ALL SALES FINAL. Due to the difficulty in opening an antique cemetery after city government hours and government fees required to operate after hours, we cannot offer refunds, and in rare circumstances, we reserve the right to cancel due to funerals, memorial services or weather. If in those rare instances of cancellation due to weather, we may refund you relative to the weather event. Otherwise, your tickets will be good for future “After Hours” or daytime tour equivalents for yourselves and/or family and friends who choose to use your existing tickets. We may also offer “Make-up Tours” within the same day or weekend, per allowable circumstances. Clients are also still entitled to Official Tour Poster and any other souvenirs that may be offered, per respective event. If you cannot make the tour for any reason, you may reschedule, but we advise daytime tours are easier to apply original tickets to vs. “After Hours,” which can fluctuate and is more seasonal.

Special fees and arrangements are made in advance of this event to secure the cemetery, so our policy has reflecting restrictions. At times, there may be circumstances “Beyond Our Control,” in regards to closings of the cemetery by The City of Savannah, due to repairs, memorials or other unforeseen circumstances. In the event of said closures beyond our control, client will be fully refunded or event may be rescheduled. Any cancellation occurring 48 hrs or less, prior to the tour, is entirely non-refundable.

GROUP CANCELLATION POLICIES — Please inquire with Shannon Scott, directly, prior to booking.

Shannon Scott Tours is a specialty product offering the highest quality story & personalized private and public tours and events possible. The refund policies reflect this fact, even if we understand life’s mishaps. In general, tours are “Rain or Shine,” and go out with little exception. Shannon Scott reserves the right to cancel or change the time of your event if there is something happening at a destination that places the success of the event in conflict like funerals, weddings, war memorial ceremonies or severe weather.
